I need to start blogging about the books I've read: my Pulitzer list. I'm finally motivated to restart my reading too so that will help!Allisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11811634580704759003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25320467.post-61936046125195792462009-02-13T00:52:00.000-06:002009-02-13T00:52:00.000-06:00Interesting about the Shack vs. images of God. Do you think that a challenging image of God is good in that it attempts to unsettle all the other images we have in there, or bad because it's still another image? I find it tough to not think about God in terms of representations; i feel the Bible does the same (i.e. God represented by the image of Father, or of a pillar of fire, etc.)

It might be weird to think about but God definitely encompasses all the qualities we would think of as "motherly" or "nurturing" so I don't necessarily have an issue with God being represented at times as a female. In fact Jesus has that one saying where he says he wants to draw jerusalem under his wing like chicks under a hen (i'm paraphrasing a touch) and that's a pretty "feminine" image.

Now i haven't read the shack (cuz i'm one of those boycott popular christian book guys as well :-) so I'm not sure if the book's representation falls into what I'm saying above or if it goes overboard....

TimAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
